Bartholomew Bats!

Our school is located in Round Rock, Texas which is near Austin. Austin and Round Rock both have huge populations of Mexican Free Tailed Bats that live under our bridges. A colony of bats lives beneath the Ann Richards/Congress Avenue Bridge in Austin and in Round Rock, another colony resides under the Interstate 35 bridge over McNeil Road. Each evening from March to about October, the bats fly out from beneath the bridge and search for insects to eat. The emergence of the bats is a wonder to watch. We are also thankful that all these millions of bats eat the bugs by our homes.

Our class mascot is the Bat to honor the mammals that live so close to us and help us. (also because Bat and Bartholomew both start with the letter B!) The bats in Central Texas live together in a group and help take care of the young. Then they migrate together as a team. Our class will also live together in our classroom, work together as a team, and help each other out. We are the Bartholomew Bats!

I like learning new ways to solve problems and I love seeing all of our creative strategies. I like to break numbers into tens and ones when I multiply.

I like multipication and circle and stars and nothing is hard in multipication.

Hi I'm Dre i like to multiply
by nines because its easy one through
twelve is easy to me nothing is hard
like 6*8=48 6*6 easy 36 there all

What do you think of the double, double strategy? (if you know that 2x5=10 and you see the problem 4x5,think 2 doubled equals 4, x5 is the same, I can double the answer and get 20 so 4x5=20)

What about using 5's and 10's? If you know 10 x6=60, then you can half the 10 to get 5 and 5 x6= (half the 60 from the first problem and get 30) so 5x6=30.

It sounds confusing but a lot of you fourth graders are getting this and really using it.

You are all great mathematicians!

I like the double double strategy and the half and double strategy!

I like the half and double strategy
because if you know one eqation you now know the other.

I like using doubleing and multiplication vertically because it's easy for me.

Hi,I am Haniya, and I like the double, double, double, strategy too but I prefer the 10s and 100s multiplication strategy where for example, you have 400x30.You would do 4x3=12.Then you would add the 3 zeros and your answer would be 12,000.It is a simple strategy for hard problems. That is why I like it.

I like the hundreds strategy but I would prefere breaking it up so if it is hard it helps me understand it a little bit better. p.s. I like multiplication so far in class. do you guys????

You are all doing a great job with harder strategies and using them to solve problems. Be sure to practice the basic facts for addition and multiplication also. Play games with your family and friends. I love reading your comments also!!!!!

Hi Dre again another thing i like
is out side of twelve like 8*500=4500 all you do is 5*8=45 now add two 0,s and theirs your answer
forty five hundred

I do Jody its just so fun to
do stuff like that

I love multiplication, and I'm really good at base ten blocks, but I'm not really good at using a number line to solve problems.

Alex here multyplying easy.I use an array IF the numbers aren't to big.I also like to go verticly thats really easy.

Alex is out.

I think that math is kinda easy for me.
I can find math hard sometimes also but I am not really good at divson or multiplication but I am very good at adding and subtriacan.
I LOVE MATH!

I think that "Multiplicaion" pretty easy.at But I think that doubleing the numbers is one of the easyest thing in
"Multiplition". But I also think that arrys are easy for small
numbers.
